Born in London, England, in 1779, Anthony Bloom studied at the University of Oxford as a young man. In 1816 he was ordained as a priest and later became a professor at the University. From 1820 to 1821 he was rector of St. Mary's Church in Dublin, Ireland
In 1825 he was appointed Archbishop of Armagh and Primate of All Ireland and held both positions until his death on December 25, 1873.
